Overnight toasted oats are a delicious and filling. You can make these ahead of time for a breakfast meal plan or desert option that is delicious and healthy. I have made these enticing topping options that are never be boring. I am sharing my best tips and my favourite overnight oats recipe that is legitimately so easy to make!

How to make toasted overnight oats

I make my overnight oats with steel cut oats or old fashioned oats. Do not use quick oats as they get soggy and you might not like the texture as I found out. I make the base with  toasted steel cut oats, chia seeds for added fibre and almond milk as an alternative milk for creaminess. I add the optional toppings when they are ready to serve each morning. You can make ahead up to 5 serves to last weekdays or you can download your Free 7 Day Low Carb Meal Plan to help you with other healthy breakfast options.

.

What you will need for the base

Old fashioned oats not instant oats

Chia Seeds

Almond Milk or any alternative milk of your choice

Mason jars but you can use anything a water glass or mug it does not matter. Having said that getting mason jars makes you feel good like you are really making a  commitment if it is the first time making this. I did feel excited first time I got to make my first batch.

Toppings

There are endless topping suggestion for this recipe but these are the one I find really healthy and nutritious and they aid in weight-loss program.

Apple and cinnamon

Almond butter and Banana

Berries (strawberries, blue berries, raspberries) and Chocolate

Pear and Cashew and Pumpkin Seeds

Tips

Toast you oats for added flavour and nuttiness. You will love them than plain ones.

It is ideal to add toppings when you serve such as fruit as some of the fruit will get soggy.

Optional Sweeteners

Oats convert into sugars when digested so fruit should be enough sweetener if you are watching your weight. You can add honey if you wish to do so.

Equipment

  • Mason Jars

Ingredients

  • 2 Cup Oats
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ Cup Chia Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Almond Butter
  • 2 Cups Almond Milk
  • ½ Cup Fruits pears, apples, grapes, berries, small banana
  • 1 Handful Pumpkin Seeds/sunflower seeds
  • 3 Tbs Cacao powder
  • pinch Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Toast oats first in a large shallow saucepan for at least 5 minutes or until just when they begin to brown. Mix together the toasted oats, almond milk and chia seeds, cinnamon until combined. Add more milk until the desired consistency is reached as the chia seeds swells absorbing the milk and thickening the mix. When done pack in mason jars or your use preferred containers and refrigerate overnight.
  • Serve with toppings of your choice. You can refrigerate with toppings buts some fruit like bananas and some berries do not store well when mixed with oats.
  • Refrigerate up to 5 days serve with toppings of your choice.

Notes

No more that 3 toppings if you are watching your weight.
I would swap peanut butter with cashew or almond butter for a lighter taste
You can warm up the overnight oats on the stove pot in a saucepan, You might need to add more liquid like water. They are typically served chilled.
For Gluten free choose gluten free certified oats.

That’s it go ahead and make your overnight oats and let me know in the comments how you go.
