Acne, Sugar Dairy! Why Is it a problem!

There are different types of skin reactions caused by inflammation in the body, and one of them is Acne. Today, I am going to talk about the relationship between Acne, Sugar, Dairy. Skin is one channel used by the body to eliminate toxins, so most of the time what is happening under the skin or body is reflected on the outside.  What I am saying is beside genetics, diet is mostly part of the problem for skin inflammation and can also be used to solve the problem if the diet is well planned and thought of. The following are some of the causes and  issues related to skin inflammation:

  • sugar
  • dairy
  • stress
  • emotional disorders

Balance Patience=Results

One thing sugar, dairy, and acne seem to have in common whether ingested or it is in the environment, they seem to affect the hormones to a greater extent and causes all sorts of problems for most people. Sugar is highly inflammatory when used excessively so is dairy products including milk. These products when eaten in their raw form, not processed can be good for you if you make them part of a healthy diet plan.

What Worked For Me

The skin is a channel of eliminating toxins of whatever the body is trying to get rid of, so treating the face as Patiencea way of trying to get rid of acne is not necessarily going to work. You are only scratching the surface of a problem that lies beneath.

What worked for me was the elimination of sugar and dairy products especially dairy milk. For some people, it is a skin condition that needs a visit to a skin specialist. When I stopped eating these products  I certainly noticed a difference within 2 weeks of total abstaining which was kind of amazing. I am quite a strong-willed person, after doing my research I immediately stopped these products and I made sure I reduced the level of stress in my life as well. I did slowly introduce a bit of dairy in my diet after probably 3yrs because I wanted to make sure it was gone. Now I am in control and conscious of when to stop. To be honest the top habits that worked for me was CONSiSTENCY and PATIENCE.

I am not a huge fan of aqua (water) but I also know the importance of keeping the skin well-hydrated. So I normally hydrate through my love for tea and I try and drink much of that especially in summer and lots of soups in winter. Because here in Western Australia temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius.

A Bit of Science  “Acne Sugar Dairy”

Acne is caused by a combination of the skin producing too much sebum an oily “fatty” substance secreted on the skin to keep it lubricated and waterproof.  The presence of sebum is actually good since it protects your skin from losing moisture. Too much secretion of sebum can then be problematic for many people as it causes the skin to get clogged and cause inflammation or breakouts. Processed foods have chemicals and additives that contribute to the spiking of blood sugars in your body and when this happens the hormone levels increases as well. In fact, there is a lot of added hormones in dairy milk and this is a cause for concern according to recent studies.

My experience with acne, sugar, and dairy was agonizing. I have had acne from my teens into most of my adulthood and could not get rid of it no matter what I tried. Acne really does take away a women’s pride and confidence and I am a true testimony to these things. I always felt I was not beautiful enough, on top of that if I tried using any facial cleansers on the market I always had bad reactions because of many chemicals used in them.

Natural Remedies

Natural remedies can work if you find one that agrees with your skin.  However, in the process of all this, I fell in love with one moisturizer that is free from any preservatives and is good for the skin inside out. Coconut Oil  Coconut oil is lighter to your skin and does not clog your pores like other oils do even if you already have oily skin. it has lots of medicinal properties including anti-aging properties.


I never gave up trying different remedies, to find something that will completely regenerate and clear my face to what it is meant to be. What I like about what worked for me is I do not have to add extra routines to my already busy life and all I have to do is just take care of my diet.

Having said that I am aware that we are all different and react differently to different remedies and food. What I am sharing is my research and experience on the relationship between sugar dairy and acne.

What to do

  • Clean your skin with clean water before bed and keep it fresh in the morning and throughout the day
  • Eat well, try to eliminate sugar and dairy product in your diet and see what happens. For some people, diet is the solution be patient if you want to see real results
  • Live a balanced life. Live in the moment and try not to worry about things you cannot change, and change things that need changing
  • Stay hydrated (whatever your hydration link is)

Why Eat Avocado

I grew up eating a lot of avocados they are delicious and creamy, In fact, the avocado was the seasonal butter for us back then. We had no choice but to like Avocado as young kids. Nowadays kids are given too much choice (including my kids) and they don’t always end up making the right nutritious food choices. Avocado on Toast by far the best meal to keep you fuller for longer.

Eggs are protein dominant and get digested faster than fats, so it is a good idea to combine them with
avocado (protein, fat) to keep you fuller for longer. Eggs and Avocado are also my favorite. Using boiled eggs increases the nutrition value of this meal to 100%.

I quite like this recipe of creamed beets, avocado, and tomato. I use coconut cream to mix with the mashed beets. It’s delicious. Lazy days meals. I eat this for dinner sometimes very light yet filling and full of nutrients. Ps if you don’t like beets you can use sour cream or greek yogurt as the spread. Avocados are versatile you can use them with most foods because of fo their creaminess.

If your goal is to lose weight or maintain or gain weight these foods combinations with avocado you can never go wrong. try different options and enjoy the Avocados.

Healthy Smoothies For Weight Loss

Today, I am going to talk about healthy smoothies for weight loss. As we all might be aware of, losing weight is not an easy quick fix kind of thing. It takes a lot of dedication and perseverance to achieve that goal. Having said that though, through my own experience of losing weight ‘lifestyle change’ was one of the most important key aspects that helped me lose 30kg and stay off it for the last five years. I know when I say to change people freak out.  No one likes change. It took me at least a year eating well combined with exercise.

But as they say, if you are not ready for change then you are not ready to win period! In my early days of wanting to shade off, the weight smoothies were the first point of call for me. I wanted to test what all the fuss was about with smoothies and losing weight. And let me clearly say that there is definitely no one fits all kind of thing.  Everyone is different, but I know one thing for sure perseverance and dedication is the answer for all of us.

Lifestyle Change

When I say lifestyle change, this has to be a deliberate choice not forced of course if you are not ready, you are not ready right!. My lifestyle change came in different ways for many different reasons, In 2013 my marriage ended. It was a difficult time for everyone. But I refused to be sucked in by my circumstances so decided to eat well and change my lifestyle in order to be happy again. That was my turning point.

I changed the way I used to think about food for instance that we have to eat a heavy meal for dinner or maybe eat peanut butter porridge for breakfast, or maybe Friday is a takeaway day or I have to eat meat with every meal, or my traditional meals are inferior or I have to eat what my friends eat.  It was like finding a new me. It made a huge difference to change all these perspectives I had taught myself or have been passed on to me through the family.

Does Healthy Smoothies Really Work?

The answer is Yes to that! So, to cut the long story short my smoothie journey hs never disappointed me. Throw in whatever you have, if you have a lot of ingredients that fine too, and you will still enjoy the benefits nutritious healthy smoothies. I now literally have smoothies any time of the day. My body craves for healthy smoothies all the time.

Oh, one more important thing I found with smoothies, in the beginning, was that it helped reduce the size of my tummy and therefore it was like an automatic portion controller for me. Who would not love that!! Portion control was my worst nightmare!!

Smoothies make it easier for the body to digest and absorb nutrients. Here are a few of my favourite healthy smoothies for weight loss.  And be mindful I am dairy intolerant so I use nut milk or coconut milk. The best is to use water.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

  • 6-8 strawberries
  • 1 medium banana
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup almond/coconut milk/water
  • 2 tablespoons of raw oats
  • a handful of blueberries

Avocado Spinach/Kale

  • 2 cups of kale/spinach
  • 1/2 avocado (medium size)
  • a handful of almonds (8-10 nuts)
  • 1 cup Almond/coconut milk/water
  • I medium size peach or apple

Chocolate Blueberries

banana and cacao

  • 1/4 cup cacao nibs/powder
  • 1 banana
  • handful cashew nuts (8-10)
  • handful kale/spinach
  • 2 tablespoons of oats
  • a handful of blueberries
  • Almond/coconut milk

I tend to add oat and kale in most of my smoothies for added nutrition and energy. Also if you are new to smoothies your brain will possibly not register this as a meal, and you might feel like you are still hungry that is only normal until your brain gets used to it. Healthy Smoothies for weight loss are the best for beginners.

A Low Carb Diet Plan

A low carb diet plan is a plan that focuses on eating complex carbohydrates in order to give you the energy to power you through the day. Meal plans mean just that you need to plan ahead. So you might need to soak your beans night before.

Eat :

  • Fish, Lean Meat,
  • Legumes (dried beans such as red kidney beans, lentils, black beans)
  • vegetables,
  • sweet potatoes,
  • eggs,
  • fruits,
  • nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds etc)
  • coconut oil, olive oil, butter
  • Cheese

If you need to lose weight be careful about how much cheese, nuts and fruits you eat as they are easy to overeat.

I normally try to make my meal plan very simple like this meal below. 

Red Kidney beans, red peppers, garlic, onions and some carrots. A great meal full of antioxidants.

Avocado and sweet potato is another meal low carb meal full of fibre and good fats to fill you up for a very long time. It is a very good part of a  low carb diet plan. I do add a cucumber just to freshen it up and some salt and pepper of course.

A meal composed of beta-carotene and good fats found in avocado is good for keeping the skin glowing thanks to the Vitamin A found in this colourful vegetables. I do eat white and purple sweet potatoes as well they are just a good.

I love lentils and they have been a part of my low carb diet plan for a long long time and I could not be happier. I love lentils they are so creamy and yummy, I normally make a coconut lentil soup in winter it is the best or add some kale and sweet potatoes just like this.

You might want to roast the sweet potatoes and not just boil them like I did for this meal. It does add a little bit of flavour.

Do Not Eat:


  • Pizzas,
  • gluten grains such as wheat, etc
  • foods that are high in saturated fats.
  • low-fat products,
  • sugar (soft drinks, fruit juices and ice creams),
  • highly processed foods, factory-made food that have artificial ingredients.

Eating is very important we all know that right ha! Good nutrition combined with exercise can lead to a healthy lifestyle that is free from disease such as (diabetes, heart disease, and cancer). At some point in my life, I was always sick and I was young for that matter not that I am old now ha! but I made a choice that I don’t want to be old and sick. Bad diets and bad lifestyles start to manifest as people mature in age. What does that mean? Someone did not make the right choices when they were young and the results are starting to show ( not always the case though) I am talking in regards to the importance of a healthy diet and having a super healthy lifestyle. We only have one life and would want to live the best life possible. Your eating habits improve your overall well being including mental and emotional health

Eating healthy contributes a lot one’s state mental health. Do you ever wonder why some people are always cranky and agitated? Before you go to see your psychologist take a look at what you are eating or any substance you are taking for that matter. How many goals have you set to achieve but none have come to fruition. You seem to be going on a merry go round theme that’s not getting you anywhere.

When you are not willing to change your bad eating habits you will continue feed unhappy, to have less energy, feel depressed and all sorts. when we lose weight through eating healthy we are happy and everyone around us is happy. Take your time to sit down and plan meals that are going to nourish your body. Be in charge of your weight control through eating healthy empty nutrition foods such as fries and bread will leave you feeling hungry. Making your own meals at home will not only help you lose weight but save money as well.

First of all, I love chocolate but  I am lucky I’m not really a huge fan of sweets. Maybe its because sweets have always been a treat when I was growing up so I don’t stress for sweet.  however, I have dome a bit of research on chocolate hope it is going to be insightful for you and get to know where you stand with chocolate. I know for some people ‘that I am not going to mentions here’ it is a love and hate relationship.

The originality of cocoa beans has a history dating back at least 2000yrs ago. Cacao is known for its nutritious and medicinal properties for a long time. Most factory made chocolate has been stripped of nutritional properties such as the natural fats found in cocoa beans. A long time ago Cacao beans were used in some parts of the world for traditions and even as a currency as they were considered highly valuable. The cacao plant is grown in tropical regions in Africa, Central America, and the Caribbean. The trees can produce fruit for nearly a decade.

Studies have shown that women crave chocolate during the premenstrual period. The question is how to increase the levels of magnesium.  There are some foods that are also high in magnesium such as kale spirulina, figs avocado and nuts. Kale is such a nutrient-dense vegetable.  It is easy to use for almost every meal. I use it in smoothies and stir-fries it tastes amazing with garlic, tomato, and chili. It can be used as a topping on scrambled eggs or sourdough bread. Spirulina is another high nutrient food around. It is incredibly high in antioxidants and a good source of antioxidants such as B Vitamins.


Lack of magnesium in the soil has led to reducing the amount of magnesium found in food. The reason why I grow most of my vegetables and would encourage anyone who wants to get the maximum health benefit from their food to grow their own where possible.  When I buy my vegetable and fruits I get good quality produce that has not been sprayed with pesticides. Pesticides are known to cause many gut problems in many people. Eating nutrient-dense foods have solved my problems with insomnia, restlessness, cramps, and fatigue.


What are Antioxidants? They are molecules that helped prevent cell damage by oxidation! In other word flavanoids found in good quality, dark chocolate can contain anti-aging properties which can make your skin look younger. Milk and white chocolate contain a little if not any at all in many cases. Factory made chocolate has been stripped of nutrients and mostly substituted with additives that are not good for us. Good dark cacao powder which contains all the healthy benefits of chocolate mentioned above.

  • Brew a chocolate drink with Cacao and Almond Milk,
  • Make a Chocolate smoothie with Cacao, banana and peanut butter,

How To Look After Yourself

Happy life Happy days

I have come up with a few tips on how to look after yourself for quality living and excellent wellbeing. Looking after yourself can be a challenge considering how busy and stressful life can be sometimes. We are all different,  but you have to learn to define your own happiness. Take your time be patient, it took me quite a while before I could see results of living a purposeful life. Some things I talk about may not apply to all but it is a challenge. And I am putting it out there so that someone may get the help they need. Hopefully!

Self Awareness

Stop and take stock of how you are living your life constantly. You would not like to wake up one day with mud reaching your knees, and you are stuck struggling to get out. My reflection question would be “how did you get here?” The secret is to be intentional when it comes to how to looking after yourself.

I like drinking red wine, and I know it does not fit in with my long-term goals of living healthy, but now and again I stop and check where this is leading me. I have developed strategies (that I’m going to talk about in another post if you want to look out for that) to work around those weaknesses that may stand in the way and stall the progress of achieving your goals. Self-awareness is the best tool used to reflect and analyze oneself. whether you are on the right track or not you still need to reflect. We all have this skill and we just need to be resourceful to use it to its maximum benefit to us.

Mental Health

Mental health is equally an important issue to talk about when it comes to how to look after yourself. The ultimate purpose of living this life is to be happy I believe. How we do that depends on our mental health agility. One cannot be fixed or have a static mental health but the end of the spectrum is to have good mental health. Good mental health is characterized by feeling good and functioning well. On the other hand, when mental conditions are not managed well they present themselves with symptoms that negatively impact our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. I am sure we have all been through stressful encounters.  When our thoughts repeated themselves over and over again to a point where it is starting to impact those around us. So it is when we allow those kinds of thoughts, mostly bad, ones which could lead to a not so good mental state.

We all should be vigilant about what we feed our thoughts 
with before we create a pattern. Because once a pattern is created it becomes very difficult to break it without 
professional help. Pay attention to your thought pattern. 
You create your reality by how you think, feel and behave. I have learned my lesson after being unhappy for many years. I took responsibility for my circumstances by seeking 
self-awareness as a form of looking after myself. It's not hard I believe, sit down take a pen and piece of paper, 
write down your thoughts on a particular issue that is 
bothering you and begin to break them down one by one until you simplify it. That way, a larger problem has been 
reduced to smaller pieces, that makes you feel satisfied 
that you have solved your own problem. That is all is there to self-awareness. It is about you and being aware of your feelings. Do not be too hard on yourself. Remember what 
you are going through has happened before to someone else, nothing is new. This skill will help you overcome big and 
small challenges and build healthy relationships.


Building meaningful and thriving relationships is another proven tip of looking after yourself. As a way of building good and strong relationships having a good, open, and regular communication is always a good start to achieving that goal. People can do this by sharing thoughts and feelings with those around us. I have learned that it is not about being liked by many that make me a good friend.  But by being true to myself and being who I make me a better person and friend indeed.

In saying that though keep in mind you are trying to build, not destroy meaningful relationships. So if you are going to be rude and conceited that's obviously not good 
qualities in building good relationships. You can turn some of your weaknesses into strength. Say you are a very 
honest person like me, you like to tell it like it is. 
Before I was I knew how to use this skill to my advantage. I used to tell it like it is and hurt other people without realizing but then I was left alone without friends even 
though I am a good person. But that has since become my 
exceptional strength to deal with exceptional people who 
need other people's help to thrive or just being an honest,loyal friend. In other words, you are helping other people which in return makes you feel good. Therefore, you have 
looked after your self by helping others. How good is that

I have become aware of what I say (despite my good intentions) and how what I say may impact other people negatively. Quality friendships don’t just happen overnight, you have to work for it. In order to have a quality sleep pattern, I have found out you need a routine prior to getting ready for bed and then sleep. Take time to find and do things that relax you. I love watching documentaries and reading. These do make me feel relaxed and I am also careful about choosing what to watch. I love how it calms my mind and relaxes me as I get to sleep easy! Going to bed when you are irritable or angry it is not going to work.  Deal with your issues before bedtime. Open up, talk to someone, a problem shared is a problem half solved.

Eat Well

Eat varied fruit and vegetables. The brighter and more varied the better, yellow, greens, purples, and reds. These colors contain lots anti-wrinkle antioxidants. Eat what is the season or grow it yourself. There is great satisfaction in growing your vegetables for your meals. Remember what you put inside may be reflected on the outside. Take time to love yourself and you will attract love. No doubt!

I use Vitammix Professional Series 500 blender to blend most of my food for a maximum digestive solution. This has helped reduce my bloating stomach. I blend my food for maximum nutrient absorption and a healthy gut. Now,  of you may ask “what” Yeah I hear you! Blending is the way to go and it has helped me get rid of many digestive issues that I had. I can’t believe I didn’t start this earlier could have saved myself endless trips to the doctor and saved lots of money from buying drugs that never really assisted me. I’m so into blending now that I blend most of my meals as possibly can. I now eat veggies and fruit more than I ate before. I am going to introduce and give you a review of one of the best selling  blending machines around.

The Vitamix Professional Series 500 Blender, Black stands tall at 20.5′ with the 64oz container in place. It is 8.75′ deep and 7.25′ wide and weighs 10.5625lbs. The base is available in one colour, brushed stainless steel finish. It’s taller style 64oz container is BPA-Free plastic which stands full 13.4″ tall on its own making it a bit tricky to find space for it in a standard kitchen cupboard. Its such beautiful equipment to put under I think! I have to tell you some technical functional details of this silhouette gadget.
