If you are going through perimenopause or menopause, you need to stop and start listening listen. I am writing through the lenses of my own experience many other women I have encountered through my journey as a wellness coach.
What I know for sure is:
- many symptoms are temporary and manageable
- emotional challenges can present an opportunity to thrive
- a focus on health during this period can bring benefits for years to come
Even though when you look online, some scientist is talking about a new “solution” for menopause belly, mood swings, or hot flushes. One scroll through social media and you’ll see:
- Supplements promising to shred 10kg of belly fat in a week.
- Workouts claiming to give you flat abs in 30 days.
- Protein hacks that guarantee toned arms almost overnight.
It’s tempting to believe these quick fixes and go down the rabbit hole. After all, you just want relief, so you can feel normal again.
But here’s the truth: miracle cures don’t exist.
Why You’re a Marketer’s Dream
Right now, perimenopause and menopause are trending. That means marketers are pouring money into convincing Gen X-ers and elder millennials that they’ve finally found the “magic bullet.” One that will take you from point A to point B and I am yet to see it myself.
We’re the perfect target:
- We’re online a lot.
- We’re actively looking for answers.
- We’re willing to invest in our health.
The result? Endless ads, endless “solutions,” and endless frustration when they don’t work.
What’s Really Happening to Your Body
Here’s what the experts don’t emphasize enough if you don’t ask:
Hormones don’t decline in a straight line.
Research shows that hormone levels don’t decline in a straight line they fluctuate throughout perimenopause, which is why symptoms can feel unpredictable. Some days your oestrogen may spike, other days it crashes. The ratio of oestrogen to progesterone shifts constantly, and that imbalance is what triggers symptoms like hot flushes, anxiety, weight gain, night sweats, mood swings, or fatigue.
It’s not a medical condition.
Perimenopause and menopause aren’t illnesses. They’re a natural stage of life. That doesn’t make them easy—but it does mean you can’t “fight” them with a single pill, powder, or plan.
It’s complex.
One workout, one diet, one supplement—none of those alone will “fix” it. The body works as a whole system. You need movement and recovery, eat well, rest, stress management, and boundaries working together. When one area is out of balance, it affects the others. It’s the combination that makes the difference. Research confirms that lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, stress management, and sleep all influence symptoms significantly (Faubion et al., 2025, Maturitas).
What Actually Helps
Instead of chasing miracle cures, it’s time to zoom out and look at your whole life. Ask yourself:
- How’s my diet? Am I eating in a way that fuels steady energy rather than quick crashes? Studies show that while no one diet is a miracle cure, whole-food dietary patterns support women’s health through the transition Nutrition Bulletin.
- How’s my movement? Am I moving enough to support strength, circulation, and mood—not punish myself?
- How’s my stress load? Chronic stress worsens every symptom.
- How’s my sleep? Restorative sleep is a hormone reset button, but it’s often the first thing to suffer.
- How are my boundaries and relationships? Emotional energy drains are as real as physical ones.
- How’s my self-care? When was the last time I did something purely restorative, just for me?
- Clean your skin care products. Opt for natural skin care products to minimise hormonal flare up because of chemical loaded skin care production
These areas matter more than any supplement promising miracles, because they offer long-term solutions
Where to Start
We are all different, and the manifestation and intensity of symptoms vary greatly from woman to woman.
Some may only experience mild hot flushes or a bit of disrupted sleep, while others feel like their entire body and mind are changing overnight. For some, weight gain or mood swings are the biggest struggles; for others, it’s joint pain, brain fog, or anxiety and so much more including itchy ears. Who would have thought it can be a peri or meno symptoms.😩
That’s why comparing yourself to your friend, sister, or even an “expert” online doesn’t always help. Your body’s journey through perimenopause and menopause is unique. You have to understand that there’s no universal cure. What really makes the difference is finding the right mix of habits, routines, the ones that work best for your body and your life
The good news? You don’t need to change everything overnight.
- Start with basics. Hydration(proper hydration with electrolytes and minerals), whole foods (listening to your body for clues), regular movement, better sleep hygiene.
- Make small adjustments. Even one consistent change has ripple effects.
- Be patient. This transition spans years—it’s not meant to be “solved” in 28 days.
The Bottom Line
Perimenopause and menopause are not something you “fix.” They’re life stages to navigate and adapt to with care and intention.”. It’s less about fighting symptoms and more about finding balance as your body transitions. Balancing quality of life is much more important here. If you need to see your doctor please do so.
Some days, or months will feel harder than others, and that’s normal. The key isn’t chasing the next miracle promise — it’s finding what helps you feel steady, strong, and more like yourself along the way.
And honestly? I never imagined I would speak like this after just a couple of years had passed. Back then, I felt completely overwhelmed by the changes in my body and the endless noise online telling me I was broken. But slowly, I discovered that with patience, consistent small shifts, and surrounding yourself with the right support, it does get easier. Alternative natural therapies like Acupuncture, meditation and grounding are quite helpful when overwhelmed.
When your approach is holistic adjusting your lifestyle, setting boundaries, prioritizing rest, and supporting your body, you stop chasing miracle cures and start building real resilience.
